With March bringing us World Book Day, it’s the perfect time to start getting excited about books! You already know that reading to your little one is important, but do you know just how vital it is for their development? From bonding to literacy skills, language to imagination, books offer so much more than just bedtime stories. Let’s jump straight into the wonderful world of reading with your baby.
“I’m bored!!!” – the dreaded words no adult wants to hear. Thankfully, we’re here with some of our favourite ways to have fun with your child that won’t hurt the bank this summer.

Let’s get straight to it!

For many parents, finding the right childcare provider stirs up a range of emotions. After all, you are ultimately leaving your child in the hands of someone you do not yet know, and this can be a time full of anxiety and worry. Picking the right childcare service forms a crucial part of parent’s lives.

We all know that young children learn through watching the world around them. But did you also know that your child, no matter what age are always learning by observing your behaviour? Without explicit instructions most children know how to do things like press a button to turn a light on or pull down a handle to open a door, all through observing others!

Your child sees you use numbers every single day in various different ways from dividing up strawberries onto separate plates for snack time to adding up money from your purse, but how can you help them develop their numeracy skills?
Look. Listen. Touch. Smell. Taste. Five fundamental elements of life that we often take for granted. When we talk about the senses, most children over a certain age can list them off without problem. Any and all of these can be incorporated into sensory play.
It's not just children who have difficulty with sensory integration who can benefit from sensory play. The truth is, all children need help learning how to use their senses.
Your child learns by imagining and doing. Have you ever watched your child pick up a stone and pretend it is a spaceship, or made bunny ears with their fingers and hopped across the living room? In the midst of creating a cafe together, clomping around in grown-up shoes, or twirling around with friends in a fairy tale land, your child is learning to solve problems, coordinate, cooperate, and think flexibly.
One of our favourite activities here at Wellies is storytelling. Stories have so much to offer! They develop listening and communication skills, improve concentration and memory, bring experiences alive, and create a sense of wonder!
Children learn in lots of different ways and one fun way in which they can learn about different concepts and gain new skills is through water play.

There are many ways in which a child can learn. Learning when we were children was quite different to learning today. There are so many amazing ways children can learn now, from adventurous apps, guided YouTube videos, interactive courses and much more.
